MORE THAN A PHOTOSHOOT
A Portrait Experience
Most families have pictures. Very few have portraits.
The difference isn't the camera or the lighting. It's the intention behind the work, and what happens after the session ends.
At The Oak Studio, we give you the kind of experience that ends with something you can actually hold and keep in your family as heirloom.
You already have enough on your plate.
A photoshoot seems simple on the surface, but is very involved for the family and especially for mums.
During our Portrait Experience, we walk you through every step as a trusted guide so nothing feels overwhelming.
Be it wardrobe guidance, hair and make-up or selecting artwork that suits your space. Every detail is planned and taken care of, so you are the hero of the portrait and not the one arranging everything.
Four simple steps.
A lifetime on your walls.
01. The Consultation
Every portrait experience begins with a conversation. This is not about logistics, but about your family. We'll talk about where you are right now: the ages and personalities of your children, the places that matter to you, and what you most want to remember about this particular season of life. We'll also talk about your home and where the artwork we design for you will hang.
This conversation shapes everything that follows.
The consultation takes around 30-45 minutes, by Zoom or in the studio. By the end of it, you'll have a clear picture of the full experience, including investment, which typically ranges between CHF 2,000 and CHF 3,500 for a portrait collection.
02. The Session
Your session is unhurried, for children to forget the camera is there, and for real moments to emerge. We create the conditions for an authentic connection, then we work within whatever your family brings on the day.
Sessions take place in our Basel studio or across locations that mean something to your family. We'll have discussed the right approach during your consultation, so by the time your session day arrives, there's nothing to prepare and nothing to worry about.
You would have also received wardrobe styling guidance and full make up and hair styling for mums is a standard part of your family portrait experience.
03. Viewing & Ordering
Two weeks after your session, you return to the studio for your private viewing appointment. This is the first time you'll see your hand-edited portraits, and for most families, it's the most memorable part of the entire experience.
Afterwards, we'll walk through the images together and begin designing your artwork.
This appointment is where your portrait collection takes shape. You’ll be able to look through our samples and we'll guide you through the options, and handle every detail of the order.
04. The Artwork
Every piece is made to order and is built to the highest standards of European craftsmanship.
When it’s ready, we deliver it to your door, ready to hang and proudly display.
Your artwork is made to archival standards, to be lived with for decades and to travel with you wherever the next chapter takes you.
Every portrait experience begins with a single conversation.
Most families mean to do something lasting with these years, and most reach the end of them without having done it.
Tell us about your family and what you'd like to keep from this time. Everything after that is ours to take care of.
